MDA5 in autoimmune diseases

Gain-of-function (GOF) mutations or otherwise misregulated activity of MDA5 can lead to the development of severe autoimmune diseases. The goal of this project is to reveal the molecular mechanisms of misregulated MDA5 acitvation and find potential targets for new therapeutic approaches. Several MDA5 mutations in autoimmune disease patients are already known and need to be investigated in detail. Many mutations are potentially to be discovered…

RIG-I in autoimmune diseases

As for MDA5, also misregulated activity of RIG-I can cause severe autoimmune diseases. The goal of this project is the same: to reveal the molecular mechanisms of misregulated RIG-I acitvation and find potential targets for new therapeutic approaches. Several RIG-I mutations in autoimmune disease patients are already known and need to be investigated in detail. Many mutations are potentially to be discovered…

Viral recognition

The basis for finding new treatment against viral infections is the knowlege of the molecular mechanisms of viral infection, recognition by the immune system and the subsequent immune response. Only this enables us to target the appropriate molecules for therapeutic approaches. Therefore, we uncover these molecular mechanisms of various viral infections posing a serious threat to human health.

Anti-viral therapy

Latest since the Corona pandemy, we all know about the threat of viral infections. Our goal is to find new therapeutic agents as treatments for variuos viral infections. Targeting viral and/or cellular molecules, we are aiming to either inhibit the viral repliation and the viral load or to circumvent viral escape mechanisms to regain an effective immune response.
